Today I want to talk about why choosing the right location for your senior portrait session is so important! I’m also going to share with you some images from Katie’s session at Forest Park in Springfield MA.
Choosing the right location for your session will set the mood and completes the overall look and feel of your portraits. When choosing the perfect place for your shoot, there are several things to consider about what the location may have to offer. I think it’s very important to find a location that you love and connect with. Your senior portraits are your chance to show off your personality & style, so the location that you choose will be an extension of that. In my new Senior Experience Guide, I talk all about the different types of locations: Park, Urban, Woodsy, Rustic, & Country. Today I want to talk specifically about a Park type setting, and more specifically Forest Park.
Location Type: Park
A park setting usually offers expansive grassy areas, lush and colorful gardens, bridges, and ponds. This type of location is perfect if you’re looking for lots of variety and a colorful look. Katie brought 3 different outfits for her session and we were able to create awesome image variety by using different areas of the park. Forest Park offers many different bridges – wooden, metal, and a covered bridge – trees, gardens, ponds/bodies of water, stone buildings, & more! There are TONS of fantastic locations within Forest Park to utilize for your session!
Finding the Light
I also love to utilize the light. Beautiful, golden light can make for some pretty gorgeous & dramatic images! I like to schedule all of my senior sessions close to sunset hours in order to be able grab some of these amazing backlit shots during your session.
Park Locations in the Western MA & CT area
Some of my favorite senior sessions have taken place at a park type setting! Here is a list of the parks I would recommend in the area: Forest Park/Springfield MA, Northwest Park/Windsor CT, Grandmother’s Garden/Westfield MA, Look Park/Northampton MA
