I have been wanting to run the Color Me Rad 5k for a few years now, but I always seemed to have a wedding booked on the date they would be in Hartford. This year it finally worked out, so my husband & I signed up for the race on April 26th!
We woke up that morning & it was cold. rainy. wet. COLD! I’m not going to lie. I pretty much had to drag my butt out of the house & force myself to go! But I am so glad I did because we had SO much fun!
If anyone is familiar with The Knot you’ll know that they have an online community. I was a part of their Destination Wedding community back when I was planning our Aruba wedding in 2008/2009. Most of us girls that were getting married around the same time have kept in touch over the years. A group of them were actually running the race as well, so I had a chance to meet them in real life! Unfortunately I couldn’t bring my “good” camera with me, so I had to settle for my iPhone.
Thankfully Color Me Rad has hired photographers throughout the course taking photos, which is pretty cool! I think I’d have so much fun being a photographer at an event like this!
Here’s Rick & I’s “before” photo!
and we’re off!
As I went through one of the paint tunnels, I got smacked in the face with the purple colored starch… it was in my mouth, in my eye! I actually had to stop & take my contact out, rinse it with water & put it back in so I could even see to finish the race!
Finished!!
and here is our “after” photo!
Despite the cold & rain, it was an extremely fun race! Great for families & groups looking to have a good time. We’re hoping to get a big group together to do it again next year!!
Here are some of my little tips for anyone thinking of doing the race:
- Bring a change of shirt & shoes. You will be covered in colored starch & you don’t want it to get all over your car.
- Bring a trash bag to put your colored clothes in.
- Bring towels to sit on in your car & to wipe off with. I also brought baby wipes.
- Be sure to wear shades during the race!
- Bring your camera or iPhone, but put it in a plastic baggie for safe keeping.
#34 on the 101 in 1001 list! Checkity Check!! Hooray!
