This Cape Cod Microwedding helped redeem 2020 for me in a big way! 2020 is officially the year of the microwedding! And why shouldn’t it be? Like Abigail and Andrew, many of this year’s engaged couples are postponing their big reception. Most are doing a smaller, intimate gathering in the meantime. Specifically, they’re opting for microweddings! And I am allllllllll for it!

What it’s all about

A pandemic is no reason to put off your nuptials completely. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my years of photographing weddings, and from my own marriage for that matter, it’s this: It doesn’t matter HOW you get married. It doesn’t matter if it’s an intimate city hall wedding, or the biggest and grandest blowout of them all. All that matters is that at the end of they day you’re married to your person and you celebrate that love whole heartedly. A plus for all our COVID couples? If you made it through quarantine still engaged, you can bet you’re better prepared for marriage! Ha!

Change of Plans

Abigail and Andrew changed plans multiple times during the thick of the COVID-19 crisis before deciding on a Cape Cod Microwedding. They originally thought they’d opt for a small wedding at their house. However, when things looked bleak even for smaller weddings, they ditched that idea and rented a house in north Truro on the beach instead. They gathered with just their parents and siblings (with Abigail’s brother officiating their wedding!), and got married on the deck overlooking the water. After the touching vows, Abigail and Andrew shared a water-front first dance (which makes for amazing photos, as seen below.) Then we cut the cake, popped the champagne, and celebrated with some real bubbles, too! Sunset portraits on the beach topped off an already magical evening.

It was a perfect, beautiful day filled with so many special moments. The sweet simplicity of the microwedding sweeps me away, and have definitely bumped microweddings up on my list of favorite types of weddings to photograph. Cheers to Abigail and Andrew!
