Dark and Moody Boudoir Session | Miss C

This was Miss C’s second time with me and she was up for trying something totally new: a dark and moody boudoir session! It was perfect timing with Halloween on the heels of her session.

Miss C had taken time since our last session to focus on herself and her health, which got me thinking about body positivity at all stages of life. But during a deep dive into Google (tell me that happens to you, too), I realized there was another term out there: Body Neutrality. So, what’s the difference you ask? Body positivity focuses on celebrating your body. So that’s great in theory, but sometimes that can be a lot. It’s something you can’t — or shouldn’t — force. Body neutrality brings a few key elements that I really hit the nail on how I would encourage all my ladies in the studio to feel.

  1. Body neutrality focuses on the acceptance of your body exactly how it is right now. Whatever weight you are, whether you have curly or straight hair, whether you have lines. You and your body are worthy of being photographed.
  2. Listening to your body and what it needs and wants. Some days you might go for a run for energy. Some days you may need a day on the couch with a book and a cup of tea.
  3. Wearing clothes that make you feel good versus what is “on trend.”

In the end, here was my takeaway. Body neutrality can lead to body positivity. After all, if you’re listening to your body and FEEL good, you’re going to LOOK amazing. And that’s something that everyone should celebrate. ??
