Devonfield Inn Wedding Photographer | Intimate October Elopement

There’s something special about autumn in the Berkshires. That golden light combined with a spectacular display of fall foliage covering the mountains and forests, creating a picturesque landscape. Nicole and Alex’s intimate October elopement at the Devonfield Inn in Lenox, MA was exactly that kind of magic.

With just twelve of their closest family members gathered on the lawn, this day was everything they wanted. Simple, heartfelt, and entirely their own. With the Innkeeper officiating the ceremony, the couple exchanged handwritten vows in front of sweeping views, a personal touch that made the moment feel extra cozy and full of meaning.

Why Hiring an Experienced Professional is so Important

Nicole had mentioned early on that she sometimes feels a little camera-shy, so my goal throughout the day was to help her feel comfortable and natural. Between candid laughter, quiet glances, and joyful hugs from family, there was no shortage of authentic moments to capture.

As a Devonfield Inn wedding Photographer with over 16 years of wedding photography experience, I’ve learned that the best photos come when couples feel completely at ease. I love bringing a sense of movement and flow into portraits. A little walk, maybe a spin, a whisper, and a few sniffs! (HA! If you know, you know!) so nothing ever feels too stiff. My approach is easygoing and down-to-earth, which helps couples like Nicole and Alex relax and just be themselves. By the end of the day, it often feels less like I’m a photographer with a camera and more like a friend who happens to be documenting their story.

Simplicity at it’s Finest

From getting ready in the Inn’s charming rooms, to the ceremony on the lawn, and the warm family formals that followed, the day unfolded with ease. We took time for their couples portraits around the property, where the October colors framed Nicole and Alex beautifully. Plus we had a little impromptu fun with some Mr & Mrs shades towards the end!

Every little detail reflected their thoughtful simplicity; a small cake, DIY table decor, and framed photos with little glimpses into their relationship. There was a sense of joy that filled every moment.

It was a day that reminded me why intimate weddings are so powerful. When you strip away the noise, what’s left is connection. It’s pure, beautiful, and deeply personal.

Congratulations, Nicole and Alex. Your day was an absolute dream to photograph!
