Newborn sessions ~ What to Expect?

In honor of our expected new bundle of joy, I wanted to take some time to explain in detail what you can expect from your newborn session with alisonmarie photography & how to prepare.

When to schedule your newborn session

Newborn sessions should be scheduled while you are still pregnant.  Once you decide to schedule a session with me, a tentative date will be set based on your due date. As we all know though, babies like to come on their own time, so the session date can be adjusted if need be. I prefer to photograph my newborns within 5 to 10 days after birth so that baby is still very sleepy & easy to pose. Once your baby is born, please get in touch with me and we will confirm our date and time together.

All of my newborn sessions are done in my studio. I keep the studio very warm during these sessions to keep baby cozy while they are being photographed, especially when they are in their birthday suit! ;). I have various backdrops, photo props, hats/headbands, & blankets all at my fingertips for use in your photos. Feel free to bring along any special items that you’d like to include, such as a blanket, stuffed animal, or name letters.

Newborn sessions can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours, so be prepared to take breaks. Baby should be fed right before the session begins, but plan accordingly for emergency feedings, spit up & diaper changes. Having a pacifier on hand is a plus, as this can help soothe baby in between poses.

What to Wear

Simple is better. No clothes at all is always great for baby or a solid colored onesy. Black or white (or both!) tops for Mom & Dad are perfect.

After your session

Post processing takes roughly 1 to 3 weeks. Teasers are normally posted within a day or two of your session, because I know how excited people get to see some of their photos & I know how excited I get about sharing them with my clients! 🙂 The remainder of the photos will be uploaded to an online gallery & a link will be emailed to you when they are ready.

Hopefully that covers the basics! If you have any further questions about your newborn session OR if you are ready to schedule a session, feel free to email me at alison@alisonmariephotography.com.
