A Vermont Elopement | Norah & Alex

Wondering what a romantic winter elopement in Vermont looks like?! Wonder no more! Norah and Alex decided to say their “I do’s” earlier this month and I can honestly say it was a photographers dream to capture their romantic Vermont elopement!!! After searching for a venue that offered an elopement package, they chose the gorgeous Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester, VT. If you know me or you’ve read my previous blog posts, you know I love VT!  The Kimpton Taconic is truly a quintessential Vermont inn, surrounded by mountains, it is beyond majestic and absolutely beautiful venue.

If you’re thinking about eloping, making the decision can be a difficult one. Norah was kind enough to give us her insights on how they knew an elopement was what they wanted and how they went about planning it…

Why did you decide to elope?

Very early on in our relationship we knew that a big wedding just wasn’t for us. Once we got engaged that became even more clear. We knew we wanted our day to be about just the two of us, making the commitment to spend the rest of our lives together and not to be about entertaining guests or pleasing other people.

How did you plan your Vermont elopement?

Planning our elopement wasn’t as easy as it sounds. Most places don’t offer elopements which meant we would need to put together the florist, the officiant and the venue on our own which just wasn’t what we wanted to do. Luckily through many google searches one place continuously kept popping up, the Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester, VT. From the time we sent our first email requesting information and received a prompt response from the Taconic we were sold. Our wedding coordinator Melissa, was so prompt and provided us with so much information. They have a specific package which included the venue, officiant, bridal bouquet, grooms boutonniere, a personalized dinner, champagne and hotel accommodations. They also had additional add on, such as photographer, sleigh ride, in room massages etc. It was the perfect, stress free package!

How did you pick your elopement location?

While we both had ideally pictured getting married by the beach, for the winter that just wasn’t an option. Vermont is a place close to both of our hearts. So once we found a venue which had an elopement package, it just felt as though everything was falling into place.

What made you choose Alison Marie Photography to capture your elopement?

Before we had even picked a single wedding related thing, I knew there was one person I wanted to be a part of our wedding and that was Alison. Alison has photographed so many of my friends weddings, engagement sessions, and newborn pictures that I just knew by looking at her work that I wanted her to capture our wedding. Her pictures are so clean and elegant, I just love her style.

Do you have any advice you can share with other brides who are thinking of eloping?

Just do it! It was the best decision we could have possibly made. Our entire wedding weekend was 100% about us and the commitment we were making to one another it was also 100% stress free. No matter if you elope or if you plan a big wedding, not everyone will agree with your decision, so stick to your guns and do what makes you happy. At the end of the day, when the wedding is over, it’s just the two of you. So start your new life as Mr. & Mrs. the way the two of you want to.
