Norwottuck Rail Trail Senior Session | Jack – Class of 2026

Senior year is full of milestones, and one of my favorite parts is helping seniors celebrate this exciting season with photos that truly reflect who they are.

Jack, a member of the Class of 2026, decided to do things a little differently. While many seniors schedule their portraits during the summer or early fall, he chose to wait until late spring, just before graduation. Honestly? I think the timing couldn’t have been better. The fresh greenery, warm weather, and relaxed pace of late spring made the perfect backdrop for his session at the Norwottuck Rail Trail in Northampton.

A Session That Felt Like Jack

I’ve known Jack since the day he was born. His mom has been my best friend for nearly 40 years, so getting the opportunity to photograph his senior portraits was especially meaningful for me. Watching him grow from a little boy into a confident young man (and now celebrating his graduation!) is one of those full-circle moments that reminds me why I love what I do.

When planning his session, he wanted an outdoorsy location. I suggested the Norwottuck Rail Trail because it’s a great mix of masculine elements – metal bridges & graffiti walls – plus greenery. I like to choose locations that have interesting elements for more posing options. That way I get a wide variety of images for my clients to chose from.

Why the Norwottuck Rail Trail Is Such a Great Senior Photo Location

One of my favorite things about the Norwottuck Rail Trail is how much variety it offers without needing to travel from place to place. Within a short walk, we found metal bridges with great leading lines, wooden fences, beautiful greenery, a dock overlooking the river, and even a colorful graffiti wall that added an urban edge.

The trail is an 11-mile paved multi-use path that winds through the Connecticut River Valley, offering a mix of natural scenery and unique architectural elements. For Jack, who enjoys being outdoors, it was the perfect setting. We were able to capture a great mix of relaxed, natural portraits and images with a little more character using the bridges and graffiti walls.

There’s No “Right” Time for Senior Photos

One question I hear often is, “When should we schedule senior pictures?” I talk about this in a recent blog post, but the answer is simple – whenever feels right for you!

Summer and fall are certainly popular, but waiting until spring also has its advantages. The trees are full, flowers are blooming, temperatures are usually still somewhat comfortable, and graduation is just around the corner. It can be the perfect way to celebrate everything your senior has accomplished before they head off to their next adventure.

Jack’s session is proof that you don’t have to rush. If spring fits your schedule better, you’ll still end up with a beautiful gallery that captures this exciting milestone.

Looking for More Inspiration?

Every senior has their own personality, and that’s exactly how I approach every session. If you’re looking for more inspiration for boys’ senior portraits, be sure to check out Nicholas’ senior session and also Nolan’s senior session. Each location and session had its own unique feel, proving there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to senior photos. My goal is always to find a location and style that reflects who you are.

Congratulations Jack!! It was such an honor to capture this milestone for someone I’ve watched grow up over the years. I can’t wait to see where life takes you next, and I wish you nothing but success as you begin your next chapter.
